Grey’s Anatomy season 17 won’t be here for some time, but we’re already looking ahead at when the show will return and what it will look like!

Editors Note: This article will continue to be updated as more information on Grey’s Anatomy season 17 is released!

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 17 premiere date:

Grey’s Anatomy season 17 will officially premiere on November 12, 2020! Along with the news, ABC released a teaser trailer for the return of the show which promises plenty of drama.

It’s a little surprising that Grey’s Anatomy is returning so soon given that they just began to film in September. The cast and crew went six months without filming thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic which had them suddenly halting filming season 16 back in March.

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo already posted a selfie on-set with her co-star Richard Flood as the first sign of filming:

Ellen Pompeo also hinted at the return to filming previously on Twitter:

Showrunner Krista Vernoff had also revealed that they’re well underway with the storylines being focused on in Grey’s Anatomy season 17. “Our conversations have been constantly about how do we keep alive humor and romance while we tell these really painful stories,” she told EW.

She also discussed the series plans to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and how they’ve consulted with doctors on their experiences. “They are literally shaking and trying not to cry, they’re pale, and they’re talking about it as war — a war that they were not trained for,” Vernoff explained the experiences they’ve had talking to actual doctors about the pandemic.

She also added that, “I feel like our show has an opportunity and a responsibility to tell some of those stories.”

Will’Grey’s Anatomy’ season 17 be the last?

Grey’s Anatomy season 17 hasn’t even started airing yet and people are already wondering if this could be the final season for the series.

In a recent interview with Varietyhttps://variety.com/2020/tv/news/greys-anatomy-ellen-pompeo-debbie-allen-krista-vernoff-chandra-wilson-1234816801/ Ellen Pompeo was posed the question and she didn’t deny the possibility:

“I’m constantly fighting for the show as a whole to be as good as it can be. As a producer, I feel like I have permission to be able to do that,” Pompeo says. “I mean, this is the last year of my contract right now. I don’t know that this is the last year? But it could very well could be.”

She also had an interesting comment on the workload the actors are given, which could mean that even if the show does return for more seasons it might look dramatically different:

“Nobody should be working 16 hours a day, 10 months a year — nobody,” she says. “And it’s just causing people to be exhausted, pissed, sad, depressed. It’s a really, really unhealthy model. And I hope post-COVID nobody ever goes back to 24 or 22 episodes a season.”

About ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 17:

With Grey’s Anatomy season 16 having been cut short to just 21 episodes, there were storylines that were left unresolved. Most likely, they will be brought into next season so that fans can pick up where they left off and hopefully get more answers.

The Grey’s Anatomy season 16 finale seemed to bring closure to Weber’s mysterious illness, after they figured out that his hip replacement was causing cobalt poisoning. However, there were still many storylines that did not get resolved.

Perhaps the biggest storylines of the seasons were all the love-triangles that had been created by the couples.

Meredith was left in a weird place with DeLuca. They broke up fairly early on in the season, however, their relationship was tangled and emotionally complicated. His mental health came into question and Meredith was unable to turn her back on him.

There was also the added complication that they worked together. Hayes was added to the mix as a clear romantic option for Meredith, but they had yet to cross any sort of lines into anything other than work colleagues.

The Tom/Teddy/Owen/Amelia/Link mess was also a big storyline throughout the prior season, and though we got answers to some of those issues, others were just getting started.

Amelia and Link sorted out all of their own issues, thanks to Amelia properly letting go of Owen after confirming that he was not her baby’s father. The Tom/Teddy/Owen drama continued to roll on for the whole season though.

Teddy initially left Tom when her daughter with Owen was born, but then went running back to him when there was a question over who Amelia had conceived her child with. This caused an emotional and physical affair that Teddy couldn’t seem to stop even after continuing with her plans to marry Owen.

It wasn’t until the final episode that Owen discovered the affair was going on, but Teddy didn’t know that her secret was out.

That means fans will have to wait until next season to find out what will happen between Teddy and Owen. As well as what will happen with Meredith, DeLuca, and Hayes.
