Grey’s Anatomy season 16 will be cut short due to COVID-19 precautions, ending with episode 21.
EW is reporting that Grey’s Anatomy season 16 will be a little lighter on the medical drama, since it will be cut short by several episodes. The season, which was supposed to end on May 16, will be interrupted after Thursday, April 9. The season’s twenty-first episode will air that night, serving as its season finale. The episode is titled “Put on a Happy Face.”

Due to the cast and crew being sent home to self-isolate as a COVID-19 precautionary measure, episode 21 was the last one completed. ABC has confirmed that the Grey’s Anatomy team will not be returning to work to finish the season.
Luckily, Grey’s Anatomy has already been renewed for season 17, so we don’t have to worry that the story will end here for good. However, this hiccup could have an effect on the story arcs that were planned to continue from this season to next, with the show’s writer’s having to rethink how they want the story to unfold. Hopefully the season will still have a satisfactory finale, even though this episode wasn’t planned to serve as the conclusion.
In some good news for #TGIT, the Station 19 season finale and the How to Get Away With Murder series finale were complete before anyone was sent home, so they will air as planned on May 14.
