The Walking Dead’s Greg Nicotero is gearing up to dive into the world of Stephen King.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the executive producer of the hit AMC horror series has officially signed on to direct an adaptation of Stephen King’s “Gray Matter.”

The forthcoming adaptation of King’s 1973 short story will appear as part of Shudder streaming service’s horror anthology series, Creepshow.

Written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi, the series already has a handful of stars attached. Better Call Saul star Giancarlo Esposito and Saw’s Tobin Bell have both signed on for the adaptation.

In addition, Adrienne Barbeau, who was featured in the original Creepshow film that came out in 1982, is also set to appear on the new anthology series.

Nicotero weighed in on the news, saying: “I feel I’m in great company getting the opportunity to direct a story written by Steve. Between Salem’s Lot, Pet Sematary, and The Stand, I’ve always found his stories rich in relatable characters forced into supernatural situations beyond their control— the every day person’s primal fears.”

Given that The Walking Dead deals with similar themes with regards to examining what people will do when put in impossible situations, it sounds as though Greg Nicotero is more than qualified for his new gig!

Creepshow is set to premiere later this year via the streaming service, Shudder.
