Little Shop of Horrors is getting a facelift, and Arrow-verse producer and head honcho Greg Berlanti is taking on the project.
For those of you unfamiliar with Little Shop of Horrors, the basic premise is that, “A clumsy young man nurtures a plant and discovers that it’s carnivorous, forcing him to kill to feed it.” Pretty straightforward, right?
There have been two big screen versions of the film in the past, including the original 1960 version from Roger Corman and Frank Oz’s remake from 1986.
EW confirmed on Wednesday that Berlanti will indeed be directing a remake of the story for the silver screen and Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying) will be writing the script.
Berlanti’s directing credits are fairly short, and include The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy (2000), Life as We Know It (2010), and the pilot for 2012’s Political Animals.
Coming up, we also know he’s attached to direct Booster Gold, and recently, has joined the adaptation for Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (which we just found out cast Nick Robinson as the lead).
As for other projects on the horizon for the superhero show producer extraordinaire, back in September we learned that Fox ordered a pilot from Berlanti for Black Lightning.
The upcoming movie adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors from Greg Berlanti will indeed be a musical, and given it’s been 30 years since the previous incarnation, Warner Bros. has the opportunity to make this version for a whole new audience and a whole new generation.
