It’s official, Fish Mooney is returning to Gotham, but what does that mean for the rest of the characters?
Earlier today the news broke that Jada Pinkett Smith would be returning to play Fish Mooney on Gotham. However, literally no other details were provided. Since we were never convinced that she had left the city for good, we’re not surprised at all at her impending return. We are super curious what will happen when she does return, since everything is quite different than when we last saw Fish Mooney.
When Gotham season 2, episode 6, “Scarification,” aired back in October, we became quite suspicious when her name kept getting brought up. Mooney’s old allies didn’t seem to think she was gone yet either, and were holding out hope that she would reappear. They didn’t even want to work with someone they thought was against Mooney. That means that when Mooney comes back, she will probably find it pretty easy to get help with whatever she needs.
There are two pretty plausible possibilities for Mooney’s return, one is that she just never actually died. Mooney could have swam to shore just like Penguin did when they tried to kill him. Her failed attempt at taking over the mob might have had her realizing that she needed to regroup and come up with a new plan. In that case, she’ll probably just go after Penguin for some good old fashioned revenge.
The other possibility, and the one that would be the most interesting to see, is that Mooney will be returning as part of the Indian Hill experiments. We already know they have Firefly, and we’re pretty sure Jerome will be part of it too, and maybe even Barbara.
Being part of Indian Hill would mean that Mooney comes back as something even more fearsome than she was before, which is equal parts frightening and exciting. It also would be a bigger problem for the rest of the characters, because no doubt the Indian Hill group will be sent to wreak havoc on the city. It would also mean seeing Gordon go against her again, and Bullock having to deal with his feelings for Mooney.
Whatever does happen when Fish Mooney returns, we’re definitely looking forward to it!
