Hannah returns from Iowa looking for the comforting embrace of home, but what she finds is less than welcoming on tonight’s Girls season 4, episode 5.

In the past four seasons of Girls, Hannah’s future has always had a bit of uncertainty mixed in to the plan. Whatever path Hannah chose to travel next, she always kept one hand tightly gripped on the emergency brake line. On tonight’s Girls season 4, episode 5, “Sit-In,” Hannah must figure out how she fits into a different New York than the one she left.

Iowa. The open air, the abundance of free time, the criticism from her peers, none of it ever clicked. When Hannah finally announces her resignation from the program and returns home, she expects the life she left behind to be sitting on hold. However, even though Hannah’s life may have seemed stuck on pause, everyone else was hitting the fast forward button.

Just the air of New York from the window of the cab seemed to bring a spark back to Hannah’s life at the close of last week’s episode. But the familiarity of her apartment was not there to greet her once she opened to the door. Tonight Hannah will face Mimi Rose (Gillian Jacobs) and Adam before figuring out what her next step should be. With the help of Shoshana, Jessa, and Marnie, perhaps Hannah can finally take a good look at who will be a part of her wide open future.
