Girlboss season 2 isn’t going to happen, as the series was cancelled by Netflix this week. Here’s what I wanted to see had the show stuck around for season 2.

Girlboss is the latest on Netflix’s cancellation hit list. While we’re not quite as devastated about this loss as we are about the loss of Sense8, there are still a few reasons I’d have liked it to stick around. Here are the four things I wanted to see in Girlboss season 2.

1. Character Growth

Sophia started as, let’s face it, a bit of a hot mess. She wanted to find a way to grow up without becoming a boring adult. I think her quest to avoid being boring made it hard for her to grow up. She stayed a little too selfish, mean, and stuck in a rut.

Over the thirteen episodes of season 1, she did manage to grow. She stood up for herself in a bad relationship. She faced some of her fears in order to grow her business. But for every step forward, she took two steps back. She ended up better than she started, but she missed a lot of lessons along the way.

Many viewers wanted more from Sophia. Season 2 could have given us that. More story would have given Sophia more time to stumble through a few more mistakes, correct course, and land on the other side as a better person.

2. Female Friendships

I am so here for girls supporting other girls. With a show titled Girlboss, I knew Netflix was going to show viewers some female friendships I could get behind. Sophia wasn’t always the greatest friend. Remember that fight she and Annie got into about paying Annie for all the work she did for Nasty Gal? Ouch.

Her best friend, Annie, though? She stuck with Sophia through it all. She was fun, hardworking, and supportive.

In season 2, I wanted to see more of Annie and their friendship. I also wanted to see Sophia make other female friends, like she did with fellow eBay seller Gail. The more the merrier. Nurturing female friendships is one way Sophia could really grow.

3. The Cast

What really drew me into this show was the cast. I’ve been a longtime fan of Britt Robertson. She’s a brilliant actress who deserves a brilliant show. I was looking forward to see her give Sophia more life.

There is so much more Robertson is capable of delivering to fans, whether it be Sophia’s crazy eyes, dramatic moments, or subtle vulnerability. Britt Robertson’s TV shows have all come to an end before their time (RIP The Secret Circle), and I wanted to see her get more chances on Girlboss.

The other cast member I most wanted to see in season 2 is RuPaul. His character Lionel was easily one of the best parts of season 1. He played Sophia’s neighbor, friend, and pretend landlord.

He always supported her in business, but kept her grounded in other aspects of life. RuPaul is a star and I wanted to see what else he could bring to our Netflix screens.

4. #Girlboss

Throughout season 1, we see Sophia start her own eBay shop and eventually start her own website. Even though other aspects of her life aren’t perfect, she’s killing it at being her own boss.

One of my favorite scenes in season 1 is when Sophia literally runs across a bridge to deliver a dress on time. I wanted to see more of that side of Sophia – facing fears to be a boss. When she put her mind to it, Sophia could get anything done.

That fierce determination was inspiring. It made me want to dig in my heels and get work done, too. If Netlfix can’t give that to us in Girlboss season 2, I hope they find a new place to do it. Because this girl needs a #girlboss to look up to.
