HBO is desperate to #keepthesecrets for the series finale of Game of Thrones. To that end, they’ll be shooting different endings.

Bran is the Night King. Or he’s not. Daenerys will sit on the Iron Throne. Or she won’t. Jon Snow will die. Or he won’t.

Game of Thrones is gearing up for its final season, and obviously the big question is: how is it all gonna end? (It’s even more exciting because, presumably, the ending of the HBO series will be different from George R.R. Martin’s planned conclusion to A Song of Ice and Fire.)

HBO was likely already thinking up strategies for keeping the endgame a secret, even before season 7’s extensive problems with spoilers and leaks.

Acknowledging that there’s no way they can prevent the ending from getting out, they’re choosing to film several different outcomes, which means that even if we find out what happens, we won’t know if the leaked scenario is the right one.

Says HBO president Casey Bloys, as reported by IndieWire:

“I know ‘Game of Thrones,’ the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens. You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

This isn’t the first time Game of Thrones has employed this strategy in order to throw off fans.

Chances are they will film various character deaths and, presuming there is an Iron Throne at the end, we’ll see a few different characters ending up on it.

Hopefully it will be enough to make sure we go into the Game of Thrones season 8 finale unspoiled!
