The new Game of Thrones season 7 synopsis is here, along with episode summaries that make it clear where the power truly lies.

Released today, the cryptic Game of Thrones season 7 synopsis is… well, predictably sparse on the juicy details. But reading between the lines, we can discern a few significant details about where the hotly-anticipated action will turn next Sunday.

“Daenerys Targaryen has finally set sail for Westeros with her armies, dragons and new Hand of the Queen, Tyrion Lannister. Jon Snow has been named King in the North after defeating Ramsay Bolton in the Battle of the Bastards and returning Winterfell to House Stark.”

Meanwhile, HBO says, “In King’s Landing, Cersei Lannister has seized the Iron Throne by incinerating the High Sparrow, his followers and her rivals in the Sept of Baelor. But as old alliances fracture and new ones emerge, an army of dead men marches on the Wall, threatening to end the game of thrones forever.”

First of all, we have to point out that epic final sentence. “An army of dead men marches on the Wall”? Seriously guys, it’s about bloody time!

Though we’ve seen clashes with the White Walkers before, the promotional material for Game of Thrones season 7 suggests that the battle is at long last reaching the apex of its urgency.

But the Game of Thrones season 7 synopsis also promises that the pulse of human continues. The synopsis focuses on four central characters — Daenerys, Tyrion, Jon, and Cersei — who all represent critical points of conflict in the escalating game. Clearly, we have not left the realm of intrigue and violence behind, even as the board shrinks to Westeros and its would-be kings and queens.

The synopses for the first three (of seven) episodes in Game of Thrones season 7 focus almost exclusively on these same characters. The exploits of Sansa, Arya, Theon, Bran, Brienne, and the rest of the epic cast will certainly be addressed — but we know where our eyes are meant to be.

The Game of Thrones season 7 premiere is titled “Dragonstone.” “Jon organizes the defense of the North,” HBO says, while “Cersei tries to even the odds. Daenerys comes home.”

Episode 2, “Stormborn,” concerns Daenerys as she “receives an unexpected visitor. Jon faces a revolt,” and “Tyrion plans the conquest of Westeros.”

Episode 3 is called “The Queen’s Justice.” HBO says: “Daenerys holds court. Cersei returns a gift. Jaime learns from his mistakes.”

It’s worth noting that all three episode titles seem to refer directly to Dany. Yes folks, the Targs are definitely back in town.

The Game of Thrones season 7 premiere, “Dragonstone,” airs on Sunday, July 16 at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
