Gal Gadot has offered some new details about Wonder Woman’s origin story, which takes place before the events of Batman v Superman.

The general consensus from Batman v Superman audiences seems to be that Wonder Woman — the little we saw of her — was one of the best parts of the movie.

Luckily, we can look forward to a lot more screen time for Gal Gadot’s Amazon goddess soon, as the Patty Jenkins-directed Wonder Woman opens in theaters in 2017.

Speaking to The LA Times about the differences between her character in Batman v Superman v Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot says, “The Wonder Woman that you see in Batman v Superman is a woman who has been around, and she’s very experienced. She understands a lot about man. Whereas in the standalone movie we are telling the grown-up story, Diana becoming Wonder Woman.”

In the solo movie, set during World War I, Diana is still “very pure. She’s more naive, she’s this young idealist who does not really understand the complexities of life and the complexities of men,” says Gadot.

She also notes that this movie is, obviously, a very important a piece of the superhero movie puzzle. It’s the first solo female superhero film since Catwoman and Elektra, and all eyes are on Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins to bring us the female superhero movie we’ve been waiting for.

“I know how many people care for this character,” Gadot says. “This is such an iconic character. It’s as big as it gets for a woman [and] I certainly feel the responsibility. I’m very happy and grateful for being the one who got this opportunity to tell her story. I think it’s also super important that we’re bringing such an inspiring, strong female role model for girls and boys to look up to. The more strong female role models we have, the better.”

Wonder Woman debuts June 23, 2017.
