The Flash film, starring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, has added a new cast member to its production and it’s someone near and dear to the hero’s heart — his dad.

If you’re familiar with the comics or The CW’s own Flash adaptation, you’ll know that Mr. Allen is in large part responsible for making Barry who he is when we first meet him, despite the fact he’s locked up for allegedly murdering Barry’s mother.

The show, in particular, shows a Henry Allen who is stalwart in his declaration of innocence and proud of his son. Thanks to the Flash’s ability to time travel, we’ve seen many universes with and without Barry’s father.

One universe that will have him, however, is the upcoming Flash movie with Miller in the lead role. According to Variety, the studio has cast none other than Billy Crudup as the senior Allen.

Crudup last worked with Warner Bros. on Watchmen, where he played the enigmatic and all-powerful Dr. Manhattan. This time around his character will be a little more human and a lot less blue.

The last casting announcement we got from WB for The Flash film was Kiersey Clemons, who was in talks for a lead role. She’ll be playing Iris West opposite Miller.

We don’t know much about The Flash movie, but we did see glimpses of the character in Batman v Superman, and the trailer for the upcoming Justice League promises this Barry Allen will be just as awkward and hilarious as Grant Gustin’s.

There’s no word yet on the actual plot of the movie, which means we have no information to go off of in order to speculate about what kind of role Henry Allen could have in the DCEU.

Aside from Watchmen, Crudup is known for Almost Famous (2000) and Big Fish (2003). He’s also signed on for the television series Gypsy, which is due out in 2017, as well as Alien: Convenant, also due out next year.
