Production is now underway on the second season of The Walking Dead spinoff Fear the Walking Dead, and AMC’s announcement has a couple interesting tidbits for fans to digest.

Fear season 2 filming has kicked off at Mexico’s Baja Studios where, as AMC notes, films like Titanic and Masters and Commander have shot at.

“We are thrilled to be starting production and even more thrilled to be shooting in Mexico,” said Fear showrunner David Erickson. “Baja Studios has been home to some of the greatest ocean-set films in recent years and provides all the creative resources we need to begin this new chapter in the Fear saga. We couldn’t be happier.”

His remarks almost make it sound like Fear’s storyline will heavily involve Abigail, the boat Strand suggests the group pay a visit to for safety at the end of season 1.

We’ve assumed that the characters are set on heading to the boat because it seems like the perfect place to hide from walkers (they can’t swim…. right? Right?), but maybe it’ll have a bigger presence than we’ve previously assumed.

Then again, life on a boat would be pretty bland to depict on television — the setting is beautiful but very limited. Perhaps they’ll only be on the water for the season premiere?

Fear the Walking Dead season 2 has a 15-episode order (over double the length of season 1) and is expected to air this summer.

Meanwhile, its parent drama The Walking Dead just aired its mid-season 6 finale last Sunday. They killed off an important character.

How long do you think ‘Fear’ season 2 will be ‘ocean-set’?
