20th Century Fox has announced that the Fantastic Four reboot will hit theaters March 6, 2015.

Box office records may be obliterated in 2015, as 20th Century Fox has decided to release its Fantastic Four reboot the same year that Avengers 2 and Star Wars Episode VII are to hit theaters. Chronicle director Josh Trank signed on to direct the film back in July and Jeremy Slater will be writing the screenplay for the reboot, which he says will include a “superhero team that fans deserve.”

Back in August Variety had reported that “Marvel would give Fox more time to make Daredevil in return for the rights to use characters from the Fantastic Four universe, including the giant, world-devouring supervillian Galactus, rumored to play a key role in future Marvel pics.” This ended up not happening, after offers quickly fell flat.

Marvel was also interested in using the Silver Surfer character in future films, but since Fox also owns the rights from the previous Fantastic Four films, Marvel won’t be able to use his character now that the Fantastic Four reboot is on its way to pre-production.

Fox also announced today that X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Wolverine, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters would be hitting theaters in 3D. We can’t say we’re surprised to hear this, obviously.

No actors have been cast as of yet and there haven’t been many rumors about the reboot’s cast, but we imagine we’ll be seeing a younger cast aimed at a similar demographic as The Avengers 2 and Thor: The Dark World.

Thanks to Exhibitor Relations for the tip.
