At Time Warner Investor Day on Wednesday morning, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara announced that David Yates will direct J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

In addition, Tsujihara revealed that the series will be “at least” a trilogy. The first three films will be released 2016, 2018, and 2020, as Hypable first reported in August.

David Heyman, the producer behind all eight Harry Potter films is returning for the new series. A press release also notes that Steve Kloves, the screenwriter for all but one Potter film, is back in a yet-to-be-revealed capacity.

While we don’t know what Kloves is up to exactly, we can speculate: Is he helping Rowling with the process of writing a script? Is he a consultant for the series?

If Rowling decides to move ahead with a fourth or fifth film in the Fantastic Beasts series, we strongly believe she’ll have to begin setting up potential storylines in the first or second movie. We hope, and strongly think, it will be up to Rowling and Rowling alone if the series moves beyond three films.

Last week J.K. Rowling sent the Harry Potter fandom into a tizzy when she published an anagram which, when solved, was the first line of a synopsis. “Newt only meant to stay in New York for a few hours,” the synopsis begins. Fans – and MuggleCast – began to speculate over what would keep Newt in New York for longer than planned. Now we’re waiting for the longer version.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first film, will hit theaters November 18, 2016.

Warner Bros. also confirmed today when their series of Justice League-related films will be opening in theaters. Check out the details in our other report!
