Variety dropped a slew of new Fantastic Beasts casting updates on Wednesday afternoon.

First up, the report reveals that Ezra Miller (known for his role in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and WB’s upcoming super hero film The Flash) is in “early talks” to join J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter follow-up as a character named Kredan. According to the report, the character “encounters magizoologist Newt Scamander when he stops in New York City on his travels to find and document magical creatures.”

That description doesn’t make the part sound like a significant role, but given Miller’s status as a rising star, we have to think it’s a good part. We’re sure that enough pestering of Rowling on Twitter could reveal more about the character.

Edit: The Hollywood Reporter goes against Variety and says Miller is in talks for Jacob, not Kredan.

Perhaps more interesting is Variety’s scoops on who may be up for the role of Jacob (Edit: Or who may also be up for Jacob, if THR is to be believed), Newt’s “rival.” Sources tell the outlet that Josh Gad (Frozen, Beauty and the Beast) and Michael Cera (Arrested Development) are meeting with producers next week as the film closes in on a final decision.

On the female side of the cast Variety has one update: Alison Sudol (What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Dan in Real Life, New Year’s Eve) is director David Yates’ choice for the role of Queenie, Tina’s younger sister. Warner Bros. announced earlier this month that the role of Tina (a.k.a Porpentina, who later becomes Newt’s wife) will be played by Katherine Waterston.

Casting is quickly coming together as the film nears production. Producer David Heyman previously revealed that Fantastic Beasts will start shooting in late summer.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in November 2016 with Eddie Redmayne in the lead role. But the fun won’t stop there! Warner Brothers and Rowling are planning at least two sequels.

What do you think of the latest potential casting choices?
