We can’t wait to return to Riverdale, especially since season 3 already looks like it’s shaping up to be amazing!

Riverdale season 3 premieres on the CW on October 10, so it’s time to start preparing for a new season of mystery. You can start by checking out the latest teaser trailer, and then read on to figure out everything we know about the new season.

‘Riverdale’ season 3 will pick up three months later

Season 3 will take place on Labor Day weekend, which is approximately three months after the events of the season 2 finale. Everyone has had the entire summer to deal with the aftermath, so things will probably look a lot different when we return to Riverdale.

The season 3 premiere will reveal Archie’s fate

The season 2 finale featured Archie being arrested for a crime that he didn’t commit. Executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told EW that “his fate hangs in the balance, and in the premiere episode, the outcome of the trial will be revealed.”

Given the trailer, we’re guessing Archie won’t be spending his future in jail, but we can’t wait to see what’s revealed during his trial and to figure out how he’s been spending his summer.

The genre is shifting again

Where Riverdale season 1 was a murder mystery and season 2 was more horror focused, Aguirre-Sacasa is describing Riverdale season 3 as “teen detectives meet True Detective.” However, it seems like there will also be an element of Stranger Things involved.

The inhabitants of the town probably won’t be any safer in this season, since there’s another killer on the loose. This time, the killer is targeting players of a popular game Griffins & Gargoyles (think Dungeons & Dragons). We will find out that kids’ parents also used to play the game when something similar happened, leading Bughead to investigate a possible deep-rooted mystery in the town.

There will be another musical episode

The Carrie episode of Riverdale season 2 was one of the season’s best, so we’re thrilled that it’s been confirmed by multiple sources that the back half of season 3 will feature another musical episode! No word yet on what else the group could take on. Any guesses?

There will be a flashback episode featuring the parents

The cast and creatives confirmed at San Diego Comic Con that there will be a flashback episode in season 3 that will feature all of the parents we know and love in Riverdale. Most parents will be played by the actor who plays their child on the show, and Hiram Lodge will be played by Mark Consuelos’ son, Michael!

This will be the fourth episode of the season, which will air on Halloween. The episode is titled “The Midnight Club,” which is a play on The Breakfast Club.

The war between Hiram and the serpents isn’t over

Aguirre-Sacasa confessed at San Diego Comic Con that the serpents will be “trying to keep a low profile” at the beginning of season 3, but we know that Jughead, who is now leading the serpents, hasn’t historically been great at that. “That quickly gets disturbed in the first episode back,” Aguirre-Sacasa said.

We’ll see ‘The Farm’

You know the “Farm” that Polly keeps talking about? Well it sounds an awful lot like a cult, and we’ll be exploring exactly what it is in season 3 as both Polly and Alice Cooper become more involved. We’re guessing that’s what the weird baby sacrificing scene in the trailer has to do with!

We’ll see some new faces

There have been plenty of new cast and character announcements leading up to Riverdale season 3. One of the most exciting was the Comic Con announcement that we’d be seeing Jughead’s mother and sister, Jellybean, in season 8 or 9 of season 3! It’ll be cool to see what the whole family is like when they’re together.

On top of that, Penelope Ann Miller has been cast as Ms. Wright, the District Attorney handling Archie’s trial, and Riley Keough has been cast as Laurie Lake, an “all-American farm girl who takes in a lost Archie and Jughead,” although we’re not sure why!

Another comic book character is also being added to the story. Evelyn Evernever will be featured in a modified role in Riverdale season 3 along with her father, Edgar Evernever. Edgar will be the leader of the Farm, and Evelyn is his daughter who is “eager to befriend Betty,” so we’re guessing the Evernevers will be getting pretty close to the Coopers this season. We’re still not sure who’s been cast to fill these roles.

And a lot more of some old faces

Toni Topaz was a breakout character in season 2, and now that she’s officially dating Cheryl, we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in Riverdale season 3! Vanessa Morgan, the actress who plays Toni, has been upgraded to a series regular along with Charles Melton, who plays Reggie Mantle.
