Baz Luhrmann’s much anticipated Elvis biopic has found its newest co-star in Kelvin Harrison Jr.

According to Deadline, actor Kelvin Harrison Jr. has signed on to appear in director Baz Luhrmann’s forthcoming biopic centered on the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, Elvis Presley.

Harrison Jr., whose previous credits include The Photograph and Netflix’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, will be playing blues music legend B.B. King in the forthcoming biopic.

Harrison Jr., joins a cast that includes the likes of Tom Hanks (who will take on the role of Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom), Austin Butler (who has scored the role of the King himself), Olivia DeJonge (who will play Elvis’ wife, Priscilla Presley), and Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is set to play Elvis’s mother.

Production on Luhrmann’s latest endeavor has hit a snag over the course of the past year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Hanks, who was one of the first celebrities to come forth and share that he had contracted COVID-19 back in March, was notably on location out in Australia for the film when he fell ill. Shooting on the film began once more this past September and is set to continue in the new year.

Luhrmann, who will serve as director on the project, also co-wote the script along with Craig Pearce. The biopic is set to focus on Elvis Presley’s relationship with manager, Colonel Tom Parker, using the pair’s complicated relationship as a means to tell the story of the King of Rock ’n’ Roll’s rise to fame.

Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic hit the big screen.
