The big screen adaptation of Eleanor & Park has finally found its director.

In case you missed it, author Rainbow Rowell’s beloved young adult novel, Eleanor & Park will soon be making its way to the big screen. Now, we’re learning that the upcoming film has made a huge stride in production by finding its director.

Rowell herself (who’s also set to pen the script for the movie) took to Twitter on Sunday (July 5) afternoon to share that Hikari (37 Seconds, Where We Begin) has officially signed on to helm the big screen adaptation of the bestselling book.

In a series of tweets, Rowell went on to share why she feels as though Hikari is the perfect person to help bring Eleanor & Park to the big screen.

“Of all my characters, I always feel most protective of Park and Eleanor. They feel vulnerable to me. Like, their hearts are just right there, exposed. [Hikari] is such a compassionate and open-hearted filmmaker. And she’s already so loving and kind to the characters,” tweeted the author.

In addition, Rowell also went on to say that she feels as though the adaptation is in good hands over at Picture Start and Plan B, both of whom are teaming up to produce.

“The whole team…has been so thoughtful. Christina Oh, one of the producers at Plan B, CAME TO OMAHA to see where Eleanor and Park live, and to work with me on the script. WHEN SOMEONE COMES TO OMAHA FOR YOU, YOU KNOW THEY’RE FOR REAL,” continued Rowell. “Park and Eleanor are in good hands…and casting starts next week!”

It seems like production on the adaptation is all systems go from the way Rowell explains it— and we can’t wait to see who gets cast in the film!

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect the Eleanor & Park movie to make its way onto the big screen.
