Variety is reporting that Noel Clarke, who was featured prominently as Mickey in the early seasons of BBC’s hit show Doctor Who, has been cast in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek sequel.

According to the report:

While the details of Clarke’s role are being kept under wraps, he will play a family man with a wife and young daughter.

Clark joins the previously cast Alice Eve, as well as returning Simon Pegg as the latest Brit to join the tentpole production.

In addition to acting, Clarke is also a talented writer, which may have intrigued Abrams as much as anything in the casting.

What do you think of this news? Is Clarke a good fit for the Star Trek canon?
