Poor Dead Dobby is propped up on display at the Harry Potter Studio Tour in Leavesden, and yet fans are still trying to free him.

“Here lies Dobby, a Free Elf.”

Or, more like, “Here stands Dobby, still in a cage,” seeing as the Dobby prop on display at Leavesden is very clearly dead, an ugly splatter of blood on his chest. Someone bury that poor thing already!

But the fact that Dobby’s spirit is already free hasn’t stopped sentimental fans from leaving their socks for him, in a beautiful and bittersweet display of affection for Harry’s loyal friend.

The sock tribute was spotted by Hogwarts Logic, and the image has been re-tweeted more than 10,000 times:

Even author J.K. Rowling retweeted the above tweet!

And people keep leaving socks for him! We hope this isn’t too much of a bother for Leavesden’s very own Filch.

If you haven’t yet visited the Harry Potter Studio Tour, you might want to consider saving up for the one-off Hogwarts feast this December in the Great Hall.

For $322 per person you get to enjoy all the culinary joys of Hogwarts (prepared by House Elves, of course), you receive a wand, and get to wander the grounds and gaze up at the impressive castle replica.

Meanwhile, the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie is currently shooting at Leavesden Studios. We don’t think Eddie Redmayne will be popping out of a cake at the feast, though, but for that price you never know!

RIP Dobby. :(
