Veronica Roth has announced that she will write four short stories about lead Divergent character Four.

A new listing on Harper Teen’s website reads, “More Four! Fans of the Divergent series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth will be thrilled by ‘The Transfer,’ the first of four new short stories told from Four’s perspective. Each brief story explores the world of the Divergent series through the eyes of the mysterious but charismatic Tobias Eaton, revealing previously unknown facets of his personality, backstory, and relationships.”

It looks like the purpose of these new Divergent stories will be to feed the cravings of fans who are eagerly awaiting Divergent book 3, Allegiant, which hits store shelves this October.

The Four short stories

– “The Transfer” on September 24
– “The Initiate” on December 17
– “The Son” on January 21
– “The Traitor” on February 11

We assume that the gap between eBooks two and three is to leave room for Allegiant.

UPDATE: Roth has responded to concerns about not being able to read the stories if you do not have an e-reader. She points out in a blog post that you can read the eBooks through a web browser or smart phone using apps from services like Amazon and Apple.

This is not the first short story about Four released by Veronica Roth. “Free Four” was published in April 2012 and follows Divergent’s knife throwing scene through the eyes of Four.

Four, also known by his real name Tobias Eaton, will be played by Theo James. Our first look at him in the role of the highly-anticipated character was unveiled last week.

The Divergent movie opens in theaters March 21, 2014. These new Four short stories will help expand the world and feed fans as we await Allegiant and the movie.
