The Disney Channel recently announced plans to develop The Descendants, a movie that centers on the children of fairy tale characters. Since they’ve already started casting for the film, we thought we’d throw out a few casting ideas of our own.

While it’s still a bit too early to know all of the fairy tale offspring that will make an appearance in The Descendants, we do know a few of the characters to look for. According to the press release, the movie will include the son of Belle and Prince Adam as well as the children of Cruella De Vil, Maleficient, The Evil Queen, and Jafar.

This morning we told you that Dove Cameron will be taking on the role of Mal, the daughter of Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. However, no other casting choices have been announced yet. So, we decided to take advantage of this golden opportunity and do a bit of fantasy casting ourselves. Here are our top picks (and runners up) for the main characters in Disney Channel’s The Descendants.

The teenaged prince (son of the Beauty and the Beast)

Top pick: Jason Dolley

Jason Dolley is a DCOM vet who actually made our late 2000s DCOM countdown twice. He’s one of our favorite current Disney Channel stars, mostly because he’s so charismatic and yet has that boy next door charm. Because Good Luck Charlie was cancelled over the summer, we’re thinking that Jason Dolley will have a bit of time on his hands. Time that he can hopefully dedicate to The Descendants. After all, wouldn’t he be the perfect fit as the son of Belle and Adam?

Our runner up: David Henrie (Justin Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place), Sterling Knight (Chad Dylan Cooper on Sonny With a Chance), Cody Linley (Jake Ryan on Hannah Montana).

Carlos (son of Cruella De Vil)

Top pick: Jake T. Austin

Jake T. Austin has come quite a ways since his days as Max Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place. He’s now starring on the ABC Family show The Fosters and has quite a few movies coming out in 2014, including the animated feature Khumba (which also features the voice of beloved Starkid, Joey Richter). While he’s doing pretty well for himself at the moment, The Descendants could be the perfect move to launch his career. He could be the next Zac Efron if given the right opportunity. Jake gives off the boy next door vibe but can also play a character who’s hiding a secret. We think he’d be a great fit as Cruella De Vil’s son. Above all else, while we don’t condone making fur coats out of animals, Jake could totally pull off a dalmatian-spotted coat.

Our runners up: Adam Irigoyen (Deuce on Shake It Up!), Blake Michael (Charlie from Lemonade Mouth), Moises Arias (Rico from Hannah Montana).

Evvie (daughter of The Evil Queen)

Top pick: Skyler Samuels

We really miss seeing Skyler Samuels’ face on our television screens. Our lives just haven’t been the same since The Nine Lives of Chloe King was cancelled, and neither has Skyler’s career. We think she would be perfect for The Descendants because she has such an animated personality. She would bring so much fun and depth to this Evvie character, partially because she looks like an Evvie. Skyler could make The Descendants a hit and the film could potentially revitalize her career. It would be a win for everyone involved, including the audience. If Skyler Samuels isn’t cast in this movie, we’ll definitely be disappointed.

Our runners up:Peyton List (Emma Ross on Jessie), Grace Phipps (April Young on The Vampire Diaries), Bella Thorne (CeCe Jones on Shake It Up!).

Jay (son of Jafar)

Top pick: Avan Jogia

Known best for his roles as Beck on Nickelodeon’s Victorious and Danny on ABC Family’s Twisted, we could see Avan as Jafar’s son. He may be a bit older than some of our other picks, but can still pass for a high school student. That, and we’d be interested to see all of these characters as high schoolers of all different age levels. That would definitely be something Disney hasn’t done before. Anyway, Avan is suave and, as demonstrated through his past roles, can easily portray both the good guy and bad boy. So, we’re thinking that he would be great at playing Jay, a character who can’t decide between good and evil. We’d just really love for him to be in The Descendants (so much so that we really don’t have any other picks for this character!).

Our runner up: Roshon Fegan (Ty Blue on Shake It Up!).

Who would you like to see play these characters in ‘The Descendants’?
