Disney’s popular Space Mountain ride will be the source of inspiration for a brand new live-action movie coming down the pipeline at the studio.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is in the process of developing a brand new movie based on its popular theme park ride, Space Mountain.

Though the project is still in the early development stages at the studio, Disney has already found a writer for the project in Joby Harold.

Harold, who will pen the script for the live-action adaptation based on the popular park attraction, has previously worked on titles like King Arthur: Legend of the sword.

He’s also already got one other high profile project coming down the pipeline at Disney. Currently, the screenwriter is also attached to write and serve as an executive producer on the long gestating Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series over at Disney+.

Unfortunatley, Disney fans interested in learning more about what a Space Mountain movie would entail will have to sit tight, as no plot details have been specified.

Theme park fans will likely be all to familiar with the Space Mountain ride— an indoor roller coaster that first debuted out at Walt Disney World in Florida back in 1975. Two years later, the coaster was recreated out on the west coast at Disneyland in 1977, where it still remains a huge fixture as part of the park’s Tomorrowland.

Disney is no stranger to turning its theme park attractions into movies. In addition to the studio’s hit Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, rides such as the Haunted Mansion (which is gearing up to serve as inspiration for yet another movie) have also been given the movie treatment.

Additionally, there’s also the yet to be released Jungle Cruise movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

As rides, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and Jungle Cruise all have narratives built in— something that Space Mountain, as an attraction does not. While that means there’s not much to go off as far as theorizing what a movie based on the indoor roller coaster could be based off of, that also means there’s a lot of wiggle room to to get creative for Harold as he sets about to write the script for the movie.

Either way, we’ll be interested to hear more details as Disney’s Space Mountain movie moves further and further into production.
