Disney has decided to release Pixar’s latest feature film Onward on digital platforms tonight, March 20.

Onward will be available for purchase for $19.99 beginning at 8 PM ET this evening. And that’s not all: Pixar’s latest will be released on Disney+ on Tuesday, April 3.

“While we’re looking forward to audiences enjoying our films on the big screen again soon, given the current circumstances, we are pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes,” said director Dan Scanlon.

The news is significant given that the movie was only released in theaters two weeks ago. Since then, COVID-19 has continued to spread rapidly across the world, and many movie theaters have closed.

Earlier this week, Universal announced that several of their current theatrical releases including Emma would be hitting digital today, March 20. Disney has also released Frozen 2 on Disney+ three months early.

Disney announced earlier this week that they’ve postponed the releases of several upcoming movies including New Mutants and Black Widow. They had said they were looking at theatrical release dates later in the year, but depending on how long the coronavirus outbreak lasts, they may have no choice but to give the movies a digital release.
