Disney released an updated movie release schedule for the next few years, pushing Indiana Jones 5 back to 2021 and Mary Poppins Returns up.

It was reported that Indiana Jones 5 would miss its previously scheduled release date set for 2020 due to conflicts over the script, however, a new release date for the film hadn’t yet been announced. Thankfully, Disney has released an updated release schedule that doesn’t just let us know when Indiana Jones’ newest adventure will hit the big screen, but also gives us some good news about the release of Mary Poppins Returns.

While the new Indiana Jones movie has been moved back a year, now premiering on July 9, 2021, Mary Poppins is returning to the big screen a week early. Initially, Mary Poppins Returns was set to premiere on Chrismas Day 2018, but Disney has opted to push the release up to December 19.

While the delayed release of Indiana Jones has been widely reported, it is a bit of a surprise that Mary Poppins Returns is being moved up. According to reports from Deadline, since Disney doesn’t have a Star Wars or Marvel release this Christmas, they’re moving Mary Poppins up to hit theaters before other big-budget blockbusters hit theaters on like Aquaman, Bumblebee, and Holmes & Watson.

Other notable changes on Disney’s release schedule surround the title change to Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet, which is (mercifully) being simplified to Ralph Breaks the Internet. Disney has also revealed that the untitled live-action film slated for May 29, 2020, will be Maleficent 2.

Disney has a lot of great movies coming out in the next few years, and seeing the release dates laid out like this has got us all the more excited about the films headed our way!
