‘Indiana Jones 5’ will miss its set 2020 release date

By Hypable Staff

The cinematic return of Indiana Jones has been pushed back, as issues with the script have delayed the film significantly.

Indiana Jones 5 was initially set to have a 2020 cinematic release date, but it seems that trouble with the film’s script has thrown a giant wrench into the mix. Filming was slated to begin for Indy’s fifth, big adventure in April of 2019, but that date has been pushed out significantly.

According to Variety, the delay is due to “key members of the creative team” not signing off on the latest draft of the script. This delay has moved the start of filming back several months, if not an entire year.

However, this doesn’t mean that Indiana Jones 5 won’t happen. Variety says both Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford are incredibly committed to bringing this sequel to life.

Disney has yet to comment on reports of the delay and hasn’t pulled the film from the release calendar. However, it seems that the delay is very likely to happen. Collider is even reporting that the film is bringing in Jonathan Kasdan, the son of Raiders of the Lost Ark screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, to write a new draft for the movie, though that deal hasn’t been finalized.

This also isn’t the first time the release of Indiana Jones 5 has been pushed back. Originally, the movie was set to release in 2019 and was ultimately pushed back a year. Of course, after the tepid reaction from fans following the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the pressure has certainly been on to write a more well-received script.

As Disney has yet to pull the 2020 release date from their calendars, there is no word on how far back the studio is planning to push release date. We’ll keep you updated on this story and when we can expect to reunite with Indiana Jones on the big screen as more news breaks.
