Dexter, one of Showtime’s flagship shows that is coming to an end after season 8, could return as a spin-off, with “all options on the table” according to Showtime President, David Nevins.

Dexter will officially end this year after last week Showtime finally confirmed its end date. With fans alike coming to terms knowing that this is the last season, David Nevins interviewed with The Hollywood Reporter saying that there still could be life for the Dexter franchise after season 8.

When asked about a Debra-focused spin-off, Nevins noted that, “All options are on the table as to where it could go after this. There’s nothing actively happening, but you never know what the future holds. We need to get through this season and see how the dust settles and then see where we go from there. I won’t rule it out, but I’m not actively planning anything.”

Although he may not be actively planning a spin-off right now, it surely wasn’t ruled out. In the past, there have also been rumours that Dexter could be transformed into a movie once the television series has run its due course, and that again may be another angle to look out for in the coming months. Whether they could tempt Michael C. Hall into either a movie, or a spin-off, is another question altogether. And, if we had to guess, we’re almost certain that Hall will leave the Dexter series completely once season 8 has wrapped.

Would you be interested in seeing Dexter be transformed into a spin-off? Would the Deb-focused show work? Or should the series finish for good once season 8 has wrapped?

Dexter returns to Showtime on June 30.
