David Nevins, Showtime’s President of entertainment, has once again suggested that a Dexter spin off could still happen.

With the news of Dexter season 8 being the final season of Showtime’s cult hit show, there is still a possibility that Dexter could return as a spin off series according to Nevins.

We reported back in April that a spin off series could revolve around the life of Debra Morgan, and now Nevins has suggested that we should “let the dust settle” after the Dexter season 8 finale and that the show is a “vital franchise to Showtime” reports UnRealityTV.

Nevins comments came during the Dexter season 8 premiere party, and he also continued by saying that the series “put the network on the map…so who knows.”

This is incredibly interesting for both fans and cast of Dexter. Nevins first suggested the news of a spin-off a couple of months ago, and he is still considering that this is an option.

However, Dexter season 8 is now less than two weeks away from its debut, and Nevins also had some interesting comments regarding the final season.

Nevins said, “I really wanted Dexter to have an emotionally satisfying and emotionally wrenching ending. As [the season] develops, you can feel that temperature rising…This week, there were some sniffles from some actors and some sniffles from some producers at the table read.”

“You wouldn’t think that a show about a psychopath – who has for eight seasons been relatively devoid of human emotion – would be that way, but it really is.”

It’s clear that the staffing of Dexter are just as emotional as the fans when it comes to the realisation of Dexter ending…but maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel?

We’ll have to wait until the dust settles, according to Nevins.

Dexter season 8 premieres over on Showtime on June 30.
