Michael C. Hall has spoken about his thoughts for season 8 and whether Dexter could make the jump from the small screen to the big screen.

Michael C. Hall must be well aware that the days of Dexter are truly diminishing after seven long haul seasons portraying the Miami based serial killer. But, after a revival from the seventh season maybe Dexter isn’t being put to bed just yet.

Hall is quoted as saying, “I’m excited to see what comes next. Anything more specific than that I’m hard-pressed to say [what will happen]. Things like Dexter, that’s something that I couldn’t quite imagine before it came to pass. I’d like to believe that the future holds things that I can’t quite imagine right now.”

Despite not declaring anything remotely near the premise for season eight, Hall is optimistic that Dexter sees a happy ending, whether it is this coming season or maybe slightly beyond that.

Hall commented, “As far as the ending is concerned, I do fantasize about a happy ending on Dexter’s behalf, you know, because it’s something that he perhaps deserves, though I honestly don’t know if that’s the way it’s going to pan out.”

Regardless of Dexter being a serial killer, fans from the television series will argue that his mass culling of criminals would justify a deserved happy ending. However, Dexter has had demons of his own, and with the disposal of La Guerta in the season 7 finale, could Dexter‘s actions spark an unhappy ending?

And, with season seven having had such positive feedback from fans and critics, season eight could be the perfect timing for a send off. But what could the future lay for Dexter? There are rumours that the hit television series could make the jump from the small screen to the big screen.

Hall pondered, “You know there’s been talk about that possibility, but I struggle to see it being worthwhile. I mean, if somebody can put something in front of me that was compelling, I would be excited, sure, but I have trouble imagining it.”

Hall didn’t exactly rule out the possibility of Dexter being remade into a film but at this moment in time it does feel unlikely. We’ll be sure to know more after season eight.

Dexter returns to Showtime on June 30, 2013.
