Dexter season 8 has aired its first glimpse at the upcoming series with a shared trailer with Showtime’s latest creation, Ray Donovan. What early predictions can be made for Dexter season 8?

It’s about time Dexter fans finally get their hands on a glimpse of season 8, after a long anticipated wait from that ending that we saw in season 7. We were teased last week by a trailer with no footage, but now the wait is over.

Here is the trailer you’ve all been waiting for.

What can we learn from this trailer then? Well, Debra is clearly deeply angry and upset at Dexter, whereas Dexter seems to be completely rejuvenated by the death of LaGuerta, by saying, “the truth is, it solved all my problems.”

Deb says she “shot the wrong person in that trailer” in a tense standoff between Dexter and herself, and this could really be the angle that sets up the eighth season. Could they be at each other’s throats?

Deb was traumatic when she pulled the trigger on LaGuerta, and this anger she now appears to hold seems to be one logical step the writers have taken for the direction of next season. We must remember that Dexter had be taught a “code” throughout his life under the guidance of Harry, but Deb has never had a way to deal with a death in this manner.

First and foremost, Deb is a cop, and she thinks like a very good cop, and this will not sit pretty easily or happily with Deb. Dexter is in for a rough ride.

Dexter will not only be looking over his shoulder for just Deb, as Hannah McKay is back in the fray after we reported that Yvonne Strahovski will be returning for Dexter season 8.

McKay has been Dexter’s most intimate relationship since the death of Rita, but Strahovski said that she will be back to “shake things up” and to “add to the turmoil.”

What do you think will happen in Dexter season 8? How do you think the series will potentially end?

Dexter returns to Showtime on June 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
