Dexter season 8 has finally got underway this week, with filming having begun. What can we expect this coming season?

After Jennifer Carpenter told us last week that the cast of Dexter had had their first read through of the script, it was only a matter of time that filming would follow shortly after.

Several members of Dexter‘s backroom staff have jumped on social networking sites to spread the word that filming is well underway to fans’ delight.

Costume designer, Kathleen Hager was one of the first of the staff to show her excitement with that very tweet. And shortly after, we got the picture that all Dexter fans had been waiting for.

Kathleen Hager wasn’t joking when she tweeted, we have official proof that Dexter season 8 is underway. But, Kathleen wasn’t the only member of staff to join in with the hype.

Scott Reynolds, one of Dexter’s main writers headed to Instagram to reveal one of the Miami Metro Police props for season 8. A Miami Metro Police car for season 8, with the majority of the filming done this very week will be held at Sunset Gower Studios in Los Angeles.

But what can we expect from Dexter season 8? We recently looked at the themes of the character evolution that Dexter has undergone since 2006, and made a bold prediction that the eighth season may look into the theme of acceptance, but what we do know from the final scene of the previous season is that this is, “the beginning of the end” for Dexter.

And with Jennifer Carpenter already commenting that this season will, “wear us out,” we hope that this upcoming season builds on the impressive season 7 and delivers yet another outstanding season of television for fans.

Dexter returns to Showtime on June 30.
