Dexter season 8 has announced the plot for its final season, with Dexter being thrown into new levels of the unknown as a character surfaces to reveal his past.

Dexter season 8 will premiere on June 30, and as we draw closer to the date, Showtime have announced the official plot of the final season. And to our surprise, this coming season will not continue immediately after season 7.

Here is the official Dexter season 8 plot.

“Dexter” stars Michael C. Hall in his Golden Globe and SAG Award-winning role as Dexter Morgan, a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department. Season Eight begins six months after LaGuerta’s murder – and Dexter is still managing life as a dad, brother, and serial killer. As Deb (series star Jennifer Carpenter) struggles to deal with the consequences of her actions, a mysterious woman comes to work with Miami Metro, offering first-hand information on Dexter’s past.

Dexter season 8 will begin 6 months after the LaGuerta saga, where Deb shot her boss in the back of a container infront of her brother. This is where it becomes interesting. We predicted that after such a mammoth event, season 8 would continue from the finale of season 7. But, it appears as though Dexter has a 6 month respite to help cover his and his sister’s tracks. Surely though, Miami Metro haven’t given up on LaGuerta’s case?

However, the plot does reveal that a character will offer “first-hand information” on Dexter’s past. We can only assume at this point that this will be Hannah McKay. She is the only character, aside from Lumen, Debra and Harry, who has first hand experience with Dexter’s “dark passenger” and we feel that McKay is the most likely candidate, especially after her last interaction with Dexter.

Debra is going to make Dexter’s life hell as it is anyway, as she struggles with her demons now that she fits Harry’s code. We’ve seen from several trailers released in the past 2 weeks that Debra is on the verge of a mental breakdown, and how she “shot the wrong person” in a confrontation with Dexter.

But aside from the official plot, we’ve seen rumours of the final season focusing on “The Brain Surgeon Murders” as well as Batista sporting a Lieutenant badge. Never mind about him opening a restaurant and being done as a cop, he seems to have changed his mind!

All will be revealed in the countdown until June 30, where Dexter season 8 premieres.
