Dexter season 8 finale will have the “right ending” according to executive producer, Sara Colleton, whilst she also dishes new information regarding the final season.

The final season of Dexter will be one of the most anticipated endings to a television series of all time, and already we are getting comments about what could happen in the Dexter season 8 finale.

Sara Colleton, one of the executive producers of Dexter, spoke to TVGuide in light of the Dexter season 8 premiere for June 30.

When asked whether Dexter Morgan would die during the season 8 finale, Colleton gave an insightful answer.

Colleton said, “Believe me, it’s been a huge debate for eight years. We know what we’ve decided, but we’ve also had to accept that we can only please ourselves because no matter what we do, there will be people and critics who hate it, but we’re doing what we feel is right for his series-long arc and what we want to say about Dexter, and by way of Dexter, about being a human being. We feel we have the right ending.”

And asked whether she knew the final scene of Dexter, Colleton responded with “Yes, and now I close my mouth.”

However, in the extensive interview, Colleton also spoke about Hannah McKay’s involvement as well as more information regarding Dr. Evelyn Vogel, who looks set to be Dexter’s biggest enemy since the series began.

On Hannah McKay, Colleton said, “She will come in and mix everything up. She’s certainly not too happy with the way things happened last year…Hannah brings back a more interesting complication. With Lumen, the act that she needed of revenge, once done, was so burned out that she really couldn’t go on with her life and wouldn’t have need of Dexter, so it makes less sense for her to come, whereas Hannah has a few issues unresolved with Dexter.”

We’re expecting a mid-season expectation for Hannah McKay’s return to the eighth season as we’ve seen the first 4 episode stills and there was no sign of McKay just then. However, could the timing of McKay’s return be any better? Will she be a friend or a foe to Dexter? Colleton’s remarks suggest the latter.

Dr. Evelyn Vogel is also someone we need to deeply consider when speaking about Dexter season 8. Colleton suggests that, despite us never hearing of Vogel before, she has played a part in Dexter’s past.

Colleton said, “She’s always thought of herself as Dexter’s spiritual mother, and Dexter thinks of her as Frankenstein. What’s great about introducing Vogel this year is that she’s the last remaining piece in the puzzle that is Dexter. It helps him unlock his thinking, but at the same time, he can’t help but be seduced by her and not quite sure of what her motives are.”

“He’s very, very vulnerable this year because of his loss of Deb, so someone coming into your life and saying you’re perfect at the most vulnerable time, he’s pretty subjective to hear.”

It all looks set to be a tantalising final season of Dexter, but what would you consider to be the “right ending” for television’s favourite serial killer?
