Dexter season 8 duelled with Breaking Bad last night, but delivers an impressive episode to give some indication to the direction of the Dexter season 8 finale. What’s next with Hannah McKay?

Dexter may have been overshadowed last night by the reemergence of Breaking Bad, but Dexter sure did deliver last night.

With the shock reintroduction of Hannah McKay in last week’s cliffhanger, fans were left wondering why on earth she is back, and what for. Dexter Morgan was indeed asking these questions himself, as he awoke in the middle of nowhere as the episode began, dazed and confused.

Hannah McKay had drugged Dexter and his sister, Debra, but for what reason? To get Dexter’s attention. As the episode unfolded, we learnt that Hannah had in fact remarried and been given a new identity, but wanted Dexter to kill her husband, Miles Castner.

We didn’t know what his role would be prior to this episode, but his appearance was cut short by Hannah McKay. Castner was incredibly jealous that Hannah had secretly met with Dexter in her old greenhouse, despite knowing about their previous relationship.

Castner was not happy, and confronted Hannah in his yacht. Hannah bludgeoned Castner to death when he became increasingly violent after a heated argument. Dexter discovered Hannah covered in blood on the yacht, before helping Hannah dispose of the body.

Meanwhile, Debra isn’t happy at all. She’s frightened and angry about Hannah’s reappearance and stalked Dexter and Hannah whilst they disposed of Castner. She wants her dead, and Vogel has warned her of the complications that may come with that.

The episode largely looked into Zach’s storyline, with Zach escaping the grasps of the Miami Metro Police Department. Zach produced photos with his lawyer to Batista, of Quinn following him in his car. Matthews wasn’t too pleased either, and despite Quinn following his gut, Zach has wriggled free.

With Dexter mentoring Zach’s demons, we saw early signs last week of Zach’s inability to control his urges. Unfortunately, Zach couldn’t wait any longer, and Cassie was the victim. When Zach was knocking on Dexter’s front door, Cassie was in the wrong place and the wrong time.

Cassie spoke to Zach and sarcastically informed him that Dexter wasn’t in, and for someone like Zach, that was all the ammo he needed. Cassie was later found dead in her living room, and Zach is now firmly in Dexter’s crosshair.

With Hannah McKay taking the Dexter season 8 episode 8 by storm, we’re expecting big things for next week’s episode, “Are We There Yet?”. We’ve provided next week’s trailer down below.

Dexter season 8 episode 8 “Are We There Yet?” airs this Sunday over on Showtime at 9pm ET/PT.
