Dexter Morgan comes within an inch of being turned in by his sister in what was a thrilling third episode of Dexter season 8.

With the third episode done and gone, Dexter season 8 is ramping up the pressure. The Dexter season 8 finale may be two months away, but we’re already being put through our paces, and the tension is certainly beginning to rise.

Dexter season 8, episode 3 “What’s Eating Dexter Morgan?” focused mainly on Debra, and the episode climatically ended with Debra almost turning herself and her brother over to the Miami Metro Police department.

As we’ve seen throughout the eighth season, Debra simply cannot function knowing that she killed Maria LaGuerta in the Dexter season 7 finale. Although six months have passed, Debra is drinking herself to death and is getting involved with the wrong crowd.

Despite Jacob Elway picking up the tatters of Debra’s career, she is doing shoddy work, and doing it badly. There isn’t an avenue available for Debra to get healthy, and we’re now at breaking point.

Joey Quinn has been drafted into the storyline with Debra after their turbulent relationship in recent seasons. This has made Quinn want to take care of Debra and help her see better days, at the expense of his new-found romantic relationship with Jamie Batista.

Quinn was the first cop to deal with Debra when she drunkenly stumbled into Miami Metro to confess killing Maria LaGuerta. Quinn then moved her to an interrogation room and quickly ensured all surveillance equipment was off. He couldn’t quite believe his ears at what Debra was confessing, and phoned Dexter to let him know what was happening.

Dexter and Vogel immediately drove to Miami Metro, and just as Debra was about to confess about killing Maria LaGuerta, Dexter tranquilised Debra and attempted to take her back home. Quinn unknowingly let Dexter leave with Debra, and now Vogel will try and help restore Debra to the person she once was.

Vogel and Dexter are still tracking the Brain Surgeon murderer, after Miami Metro closed the case. The antagonist is tracking both Dexter and Vogel and is continuing to leave parts of his victim’s brain to Vogel and Dexter as “presents.”

The pair are still trying to find out who the identity of this man is, and we’re sure it won’t take Dexter long, with next week’s trailer dropping huge hints that we may find out on Sunday.

Here’s the trailer for this Sunday’s episode:

Dexter season 8 resumes this Sunday, airing on Showtime.
