Dexter creator Jeff Lindsay, will finally debut the long awaited comics this July after several delays with Marvel.

Dexter fans who cannot get enough of the books and television series will finally be able to get their hands on the comic book adaptation this July after several disappointing delays according to a report by Comicbookmovie.com

We reported back in February that Marvel had indeed delayed the comic book series, and cancelled orders but it now appears as though fans will be counting down the days until its debut in July.

Reports have been sketchy of what the content of the comic books will focus on, but the comics will be separate from the television series of Dexter and lie closer to the stories of the books. During our original story back in February we reported that volume 1’s synopsis would be as follows:

“While keeping his Dark Passenger’s bloodlust–his inner demon–under control, Dexter must stop the latest murderous threat to Miami…the Skid Row Slasher. As this new menace racks up a body count to rival that of Dexter, can Miami’s “darkest” hero save the day and keep his cover intact as a normal, well-adjusted member of society?”

However, what we do know is that the first volume now has an official cover which is strikingly different to the cover seen back in February. It appears that the delays could well have been caused because of overhauls seen to the comic, with this new cover art by Mike Del Mundo and potentially more time to thrash out a better comic deserving of the Dexter “brand.”

We hope that the Dexter comics do not suffer a third setback since its announcement back in 2011, and that the comics do justice to the impeccable television series which enters its eighth and most likely final season over on Showtime on June 30.

Are you hotly anticipating the release of the Dexter comics? Have you been affected by the delays? Or, is this just an unnecessary step for Jeff Lindsay?

Be sure to keep an eye out on the Marvel Comic Store for an official release date.
