Dexter fans waited anxiously to see the stars of Showtime’s hit series, as the cast bid an emotional farewell to the fans and the series.

For the most intense fans of Dexter, you’ll all be well aware that Dexter wrapped last week for filming, and at this current time, Dexter has sadly and officially ended.

Over the past few months, fans have been preparing themselves for Dexter season 8, and the news that the series will not return. However, SDCC gave fans a rare moment of pulling the cast together throughout the years to bid a truly respected farewell to fans, as well as the series itself.

Michael C. Hall was joined by Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter, David Zayas, Yvonne Strahovski, Lauren Velez and Erik King to name a few, as the stars took questions from the audience in what was to become an emotional panel at SDCC 2013.

Carpenter began the tributes to fans by saying, “You’re the reason we show up every day. We want to do right by you because your standards are high, and you deserve good work, so it can’t be a wrap until we’re all here together, especially for those who waited to be in this room.”

Hall also echoed the words of Carpenter by saying, “Just as you all waited in line and are here for us, we have been here for you, and we are here because of you.”

There is no doubt that the cast recognize what the show has done for them, and it couldn’t have happened if the fans weren’t passionate about the series itself. It was definitely a room full of gratitude, as many of the cast did exceptionally well to hold back the tears.

However, this wasn’t all that happened at the panel itself. The cast revealed a few interesting snippets of what’s the come in the rest of Dexter season 8. Carpenter was questioned about what her own personal thoughts are regarding Debra Morgan.

Carpenter responded with, “I wanted and want Deb to die. As an actor, it’s because I love her. It’s a little like how Michael treats his victims: I want her to go to the bottom of the abyss instead of in my head for eight years after the show is over to wonder ‘what if?’ and I’m calling Scott [Buck] to write her a scene.”

Hall was also asked about whether a Dexter spin-off could revolve around Harrison, Dexter’s son in the series. Hall jested, “In 25 years there’s going to be a new series called Harrison, and Dexter will have died and I’m going to be his dead, internalized father.”

The cast also revealed what props they have taken as souvenirs from the series, with Hall taking home Dexter’s watch and lanyard, and Carpenter stealing some blood spatter paintings. Strahovski has taken a black orchid, Zayas has taken one of Angel’s defining hats, and Harrington joked he has taken all of Quinn’s fake gold.

This will sadly be the last appearance of the Dexter cast at Comic-con which has served them truly well over the years, but we hope to see the cast move on to new careers and hope to see them back at San Diego Comic-Con 2014.
