Daredevil will most likely be headed back to Marvel after director Joe Carnahan tweets that his idea for “a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today…”

Deadline is reporting that this is the final nail in the coffin for Fox and Daredevil’s rights. Fox, who made the original Daredevil with Ben Affleck were hoping to reboot the franchise with The Grey director Joe Carnahan, but after exhausting every possibility, it seems that the rights to the character will fall back to Marvel/Disney on October 10, as we reported just days ago.

Fox wasn’t exactly upset by this turn of events, as they’ve been “lukewarm” on making this film. Deadline reports,

“From what I’m hearing, that means that Fox is prepared to see the rights to that character revert back to Marvel Studios, and fall under the Disney umbrella. Marvel essentially said no to an extension and to Fox’s request that it come aboard as cofinancier of the Daredevil film.”

The good news is Daredevil will be headed back to Marvel where it belongs and under the umbrella of Disney’s now massive comic-character folder. It’s quite possible that director Joe Carnahan will part ways with Fox and see if Marvel is interested in backing this project, as he’s already done quite a bit of the groundwork for a new Daredevil film.
