The reimagined Dynasty has been ordered to pilot on The CW, and if picked up to series, Nathalie Kelley will play lead character Cristal.

Last week we reported that The CW has put in pilot orders for two new projects: Searchers, a drama series from Greg Berlanti and The 100 creator Jason Rothenberg, and Dynasty, a reboot of the 1980s soap opera by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of Gossip Girl fame.

As preparation to produce the pilot episode for both series begins, Dynasty has found one of its two female leads: The Wrap reports that Nathalie Kelley, best known from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, UnReal, and fellow CW series The Vampire Diaries, will be playing the role of Cristal.

Per the original announcement, Cristal is a young Hispanic woman who marries into one of the series’ two primary families. As a newcomer in the WASP-y Carrington household, Cristal will be squaring off against the series’ other lead: Fallon Carrington, the billionaire daughter of Cristal’s husband Blake.

Dynasty is also produced by Revenge‘s Sallie Patrick and promises to be a modern soap full of juicy intrigue, with the glossy production value we’ve come to expect from our CW programming. The original Dynasty is one of the most esteemed golden age soap operas, airing on ABC from 1981 to 1989.

The next step for the Dynasty reboot is to produce a pilot, from which The CW will determine whether the series deserves a season 1 pick-up and a place on the coveted schedule.
