Community‘s Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan have been executive producers for the show since its inception in 2009, and serve as the namesakes for Greendale characters Fat Neil and Garrett respectively. Will their departure affect the show’s core humor and it’s chance for renewal?

Goldman and Donovan, who have worked on Family Guy and Scrubs, leave Community on good terms, according to Vulture. Their departure is due to a new deal the duo penned with 20th Century Fox TV. (What project do they have up their sleeves now?)

What’s really important to consider is what their departure means for the show as a whole. Here’s what Vulture reports:

According to several industry insiders contacted by Vulture, the departure of the two men … is unlikely to have an impact on NBC’s decision to renew or cancel the show. Indeed, there are many other qualified writers and producers on the Community staff, and we’ve already heard discussion of an increased role for co-exec producer Chris McKenna (who wrote the mind-blowing “Remedial Chaos Theory” and just signed a big new deal with Community co-producer Universal Television)

While we were big fans of “Remedial Chaos Theory,” we must wonder what throw of the dice Community has landed itself in now. What are your thought’s on this announcement?
