An adaptation of Circe will soon be making its way to HBO Max.

According to Deadline, forthcoming new streaming service HBO Max has officially given a straight-to-series order to Circe.

Based on the best-selling book by Madeline Miller, the forthcoming drama series is described as a modern take on Greek mythology told through a feminist perspective. At the heart of the story is the goddess Circe, who transforms from a nymph into a powerful witch with the power to challenge the likes of gods, titans, and monsters.

Behind the camera, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver will team up to serve as writers and executive producers on the upcoming adaptation. Previously, Jaffa and Silver have worked together on the Planet of the Apes franchise. The duo also co-wrote 2015’s Jurassic World.

Though Jaffa and Silver are no stranger to big time blockbusters, Circe will mark the first time either have ever dipped their toes into the world of television.

In a statement announcing the upcoming adaptation, HBO Max head of original content, Sarah Aubrey, spoke of how excited everyone on the platform is to work with the two screenwriters.

Circe tells an epic story of love, loss, tragedy and immortal conflict, all through the eyes of a fierce female lens. I’ve been a longtime fan of Rick and Amanda’s work and their ability to simultaneously build epic imaginative worlds while creating emotional dynamic characters. In partnership with Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping, we have the dream team to bring Circe to life,” said Aubrey.

The adaptation’s straight-to-series order is set to be comprised of eight episodes for now. There’s no word yet on when we can expect the series to premiere.

As for HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s recently announced streaming platform is set to launch in the spring of 2020.
