It’s a big day for Christopher Nolan’s next movie Interstellar. The film now has Hans Zimmer as its composer as well as a release date.

Back in March it was unofficially announced that Christopher Nolan’s next movie Interstellar would be released on November 7, 2014. It took three months, but according to Deadline, that release date is finally confirmed.

Also announced today is that Interstellar will be scored by Christopher Nolan’s long time collaborator Hans Zimmer (according to Variety). As Zimmer has scored all but one of Nolan’s movies dating back to 2005, this was expected. With James Newton Howard, Zimmer scored Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Alone, Zimmer scored Inception and The Dark Knight Rises.

We previously told you that Interstellar “centers on the discovery of an energy source from the Hawking radiation from a nearby black hole. Extra-dimensional beings that control the black hole may also exist in the plot. Several plot points are allusions to general relativity and parts of Thorne’s research, including the gravitational red shift that occurs when the character is close to the vicinity of the black hole.” Nolan is known for his films making you think (see: Inception, Memento, The Prestige), so this sounds like him.

Before Nolan was attached to the project, Interstellar was set to be directed by Steven Spielberg. It had been written by Jonathan Nolan, so when Spielberg dropped out, Christopher Nolan was the easy choice for director.

The Interstellar cast is starting to come together. Matthew McConaughey has been announced as the lead character. Also set to star are Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and, of course, Michael Caine.

Interestingly, the film will be co-produced and distributed by Paramount and Warner Bros. Paramount will distribute it domestically and Warner Bros has the rights internationally. This doesn’t happen often, but this just go to show how certain projects studios will do anything to get a piece of them.
