Get ready to see Disney’s Chip ’n’ Dale come to life like you’ve never seen them before.

A big screen adaptation of Disney’s hit animated series, Chip ’n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers is currently in the works and the upcoming project has officially found its director.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has tapped Akiva Schaffer to helm the upcoming adaptation.

Though best known for his work as part of the Lonely Island trio, Schaffer’s recent credits include 2016’s comedy Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping, and Freeform’s Alone Together.

As with The Lion King and The Jungle Book, the plan is to bring Chip ’n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers to life on the big screen using a hybrid combination of live-action and CGI.

Though the big screen adaptation is based on Disney’s hit animated series, which debuted in 1989 and ran for three seasons, it doesn’t sound as though Schaeffer plans to rehash any old story lines from the show.

Though specific plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, one thing we do know is that the forthcoming adaptation won’t be an origin story. Interestingly, it doesn’t sound like it’ll revolve around the detective agency either.

Per THR, the plan is for the upcoming live-action/CG hybrid to be “meta, something self-referential and cool.”

Though we’re sure many of you are suffering from live-action fatigue, we can’t be the only ones intrigued based on the mysterious description alone!

Schaffer will be directing from a script written by Dan Gregor and Doug Man.

Additionally, David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman (who previously worked on The Muppets and Beauty and the Beast) are on board to produce.

There’s currently no word on when we can expect the live-action/CG hybrid to make it’s grand debut.
