Reports had suggested that Captain America 3’s release date would be set for May 6, 2016, pitting it against Batman Vs Superman and now Marvel has confirmed the film’s release date.

There had been some secrecy around Marvel’s May 6, 2016 film, but Marvel’s confirmation shows that they have no problem putting the highly popular superhero up against what should be one of 2016’s biggest films.

Marvel undoubtedly has a lot of faith in the Captain America franchise, especially now considering the film is breaking box office records after it hit theaters this past Friday. It’s beyond $200 million worldwide and should continue to head towards a total of $700-800m.

Fans have been curious as to whether Warner Bros. would rethink their release date at the sight of Marvel challenging them with one of their stout superhero franchises, but it’s not likely unless some unforeseen shoot delays occur. Read Marvel’s announcement below:

Marvel has become known for scheduling films years ahead of time, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s success has probably given them a couple good (read million) reasons to battle Batman Vs Superman on the same weekend.
