Many believed that the new album would be released by the end of January, after Bon Voyage season 4 had wrapped up airing. However, others believed they wouldn’t have their comeback until closer to the tour dates.

On January 7, it was announced that Map of the Soul: 7 will be released Friday, February 21, 2020 (6:00 PM KST / 4:00 AM EST)! Pre-orders for the album will begin this week on Thursday, January 9, 2020!

About BTS ‘Map of the Soul: 7’

Map of the Soul: 7 will continue on the Map of the Soul theme, which is inspired by the book Jung’s Map of the Soul.

Map of the Soul: Persona delved into one of the Jungian Archetypes, and it’s expected we’ll see more of this in the next album.

According to Simply Psychology:

Archetypes are images and thoughts which have universal meanings across cultures which may show up in dreams, literature, art or religion. (Jung, 1947)

Jung believes symbols from different cultures are often very similar because they have emerged from archetypes shared by the whole human race which are part of out collective unconscious.

For Jung, our primitive past becomes the basis of the human psyche, directing and influencing present behavior. Jung claimed to identify a large number of archetypes but paid special attention to four.

Jung labeled these archetypes the Self, the Persona, the Shadow and the Anima/Animus.

Some fans are already speculating if “7” might be a placeholder for another name (like Shadow or Ego) until we get more information. We’ll have to see what happens in the coming days to know for sure!

More details about the album and tour should come shortly. Check back for more information then!
