Bryan Singer’s first post-X-Men project is Uprising, an adaptation of the sci-fi novel The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

Right now, all of Bryan Singer’s attention is focused on X-Men: Apocalypse, the last chapter of the prequel (ish) X-Men trilogy starring Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.

X-Men: Apocalypse is not scheduled to be released until May 27, 2016.

But once it’s all filmed, edited and promoted, Bryan Singer will begin working on Uprising, the adaptation of Robert A. Heinlin’s sci-fi epic The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

The book was written in 1966, and takes place in the imagined future of 2075, where prison colonies have been established on the moon.

The three million inhabitants slowly form their own society, and when the moon-dwellers (called “Loonies”) rebel against the Earth, an inter-planetary conflict breaks out.

As the master computer becomes sentient, man must now work with machine in order to avoid total annihilation.

The Uprising movie script is penned by Arrow and Green Lantern writer Marc Guggenheim.

Other Heinlein novel adaptations include Starship Troopers, The Puppet Masters and the 1994 miniseries Red Planet.

DreamWorks has previously attempted an adaptation of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, but it didn’t pan out.
