Breaking Bad season 6, episode 1/season 5, episode 9 just premiered on AMC. Now it’s time to recap what went down!

The Breaking Bad season 6 premiere episode kicked off with a flash forward. The White family home has been vacated and is covered in graffiti. Interestingly, inside his house has “Heisenberg” graffitied. It’s surrounded by a fence. Kids are skateboarding in the pool. Walt, with his beard as we saw in the season 5 premiere, enters the house to retrieve his ricin from within the power outlet cover.

Back in the present, we return to the season 5, episode 8 finale where Hank connects his brother-in-law to Heisenberg. He walks out of the bathroom and is visibly disturbed with the book in hand. Hank says he’s not feeling well, and he and Marie decide to head home. On their way home, Hank has a panic attack and drives into a yard of a stranger.

We cut to after a brief hospital visit. Hank is back at home with incriminating book in hand. He compares the handwriting in the book to the “W.W.” handwritten in his file and makes a match.

Meanwhile, Walt is now working at the car wash and is trying to assimilate into a normal life. He tells Skyler he wants to buy additional car washes – a second one – in order to grow the business since their first car wash has been a success.

Lydia comes to the car wash to ask Walt to help raise the quality of the meth he’s left behind. He refuses, and Skyler is told by Walt about Lydia’s arrival. Skyler proceeds to tell Lydia to never come back to the car wash.

Hank continues to work the case with his excellent new lead, but is still having trouble connecting Walt other than the book. He finally comes across the Heisenberg sketch, which he clearly thinks looks just like his brother.

At Jesse’s house, he and his druggie friends are sitting around talking. Not amused by their Star Trek chat, Jesse heads to Saul’s office and wants to give $2.5 million to Mike’s granddaughter and the other $2.5 million to the missing boy’s (Drew Sharp’s) family. The child, you may remember, was shot by Todd when he was out in the desert at the same time as the meth cooks when he spotted them during their train heist. Saul calls Walt, who says he’ll take care of it.

Walt comes over to Jesse’s house and attempts to convince him that Mike is still alive, but it’s clear from extreme close-ups on Jesse’s face that he doesn’t believe him. Later that night at Walt’s house after Skyler says that Hank still isn’t feeling well, Walt gets sick himself and while in the bathroom discovers that his incriminating book is missing. Suspicious that Hank is now onto him, he discovers a tracking device on his car.

We next see Jesse giving some of his $5 million to a homeless man, which gives him a new idea: Throw all of his money out on the street. He begins driving down a road in a run down area of Albuquerque throwing out wads of cash like a paperboy.

Walt goes over to Hank’s house to confront him about the tracker, and in a surprise move Hank confesses he knows he is Heisenberg. Hank throws a punch at Walt who falls, and Walt tells Hank his cancer has come back and he only has a few months to live. It’s for this reason, the kingpin surmises, that it’s not worth convicting Walt or trying to prove his guilt (Walt still denies he’s Heinsenberg, by the way).

Hank says that he doesn’t know who this person is standing in front of him. In a beautiful, Walt-esque moment, our lead man warns Hank that if he doesn’t really know who his brother-in-law is, then he must tread lightly.
