The Bombshell trailer provides a fact-based story and a glorious acting masterclass featuring Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Margot Robbie.

When the Bombshell teaser debuted a few months ago, the most impressive thing about it was the truly uncanny resemblance between Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly and the real-life Megyn Kelly herself.

Now that the full trailer has arrived, it’s hard to pinpoint the most impressive thing about it because everything about it is just so damn impressive.

While the teaser trailer only offered us a glimpse at the three lead actresses, the trailer gives us the full scope of the story and these incredibly talented actresses in action.

We’re treated to Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman’s performances as real-life figures Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson, and our first real look at Margot Robbie as a fictional Fox News worker, who acts as a composite of real-life women working at the news station.

The fact-based film tells the story of the women from Fox News — including Kidman’s Gretchen Carlson, Theron’s Megyn Kelly, and Robbie’s composite character, Kayla Pospisil — and their numerous sexual harassment allegations against the channel’s late CEO, Roger Ailes (here played by an almost unrecognizable John Lithgow).

According to the film’s official logline, Bombshell is a revealing look inside the most powerful and controversial media empire of all time, Fox News, and the explosive story of the women who brought down the infamous man who created it.

In the trailer, we also get to see the rest of the talented cast, which includes Allison Janney, Kate McKinnon, Malcolm McDowell, Mark Duplass, Alice Eve, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Liv Hewson, and Alanna Ubach.

The film recently had its first screening in Los Angeles, where it immediately earned Oscar buzz for Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie’s performances.

It’s par for the course for director Jay Roach, who has made two other ripped-from-the-headlines, Emmy-winning HBO movies — Recount and Game Change.

Lionsgate will release Bombshell on Friday, December 20, 2019.
