Moviegoers will have to wait even longer than expected to catch films such as Black Widow, West Side Story and more in theaters.

According to Deadline, Disney has announced new theatrical release dates for a slew of highly anticipated films— including the stand alone Black Widow movie, which was originally slated to hit theaters months ago.

The stand alone Marvel movie, which finds Scarlett Johansson returning to reprise her role as the titular assassin has now been pushed back from November 6 to May 7, 2021.

Unfortunately, Black Widow’s new release date has caused a domino effect when it comes to Disney and Marvel’s original release slate.

As a result, Marvel’s Eternals has had its theatrical release date moved from February to November 5, 2021.

In a Tweet sent out on Wednesday (September 23), Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani spoke on the matter, saying: “Marvel made the right and responsible decision. There’s a pandemic. Nothing is more important than health and lives. I can’t tell people to go to a movie theater until I feel safe going to one. Take care of yourselves. I promise it’ll be worth the wait!”

In addition, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has also switched up its release date from May 7, 2021 to July 9, 2021.

Also shifting its release date as a result of the continued closure of movie theaters is Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated remake of West Side Story. The musical, which was originally set to hit theaters this December, has now been pushed back a full year to December 10, 2021.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express follow-up, Death on the Nile, has also pushed back its release date from October 23 to December 18, 2020.

Amidst all the release date shuffles comes a bit of a silver lining for Disney and Pixar fans. The studio’s Soul seems to be sticking to its November 20 release date for the time being.
