Black Widow released its first official trailer, and it has Natasha returning home to take care of some unfinished business.

Talk of the Black Widow movie has been scuttling around the MCU fandom for years. And finally, FINALLY, the movie is becoming a real thing and has released its very first trailer.

And even better, this is a pretty damn amazing trailer. If you were unsure how you felt about the Black Widow movie, especially after the peek into her backstory in Age of Ultron, this trailer will reignite your excitement for more Black Widow content.

Check out the trailer below to see for yourself.

So, the big question here is when does this movie take place? Black Widow will set off on her solo mission after the events of Captain America: Civil War.

And while it’s exciting to see Natasha finally embarking on a mission on her own onscreen, we get to see something even more exciting in the trailer: her other family.

Yes indeed, though she marks the Avengers as her real family–a sentiment that is echoed in Avengers: Endgame after the tragedy at Vormir–we get to see her reunite with her family from Russia that made up the assassin squad she was a part of before she broke off on her own. Of course, it’s unclear if there are any blood ties there, though she does call Yelena Bolova (played by Florence Pugh) “sis” in the trailer.

Either way, it becomes clear that this group made up of Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), the Red Guardian aka Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour), and Yelena were Natasha’s family years before she met the Avengers.

True to a Marvel trailer, the Black Widow plot details are pretty sparse here. And apart from knowing this movie comes after Civil War and that we’ll finally know what happened in Budapest (something, if you’ll recall Nat and Clint referenced constantly), we don’t really know what else to expect.

However, this trailer is full of action and looks like it will be a fun mix of more peeks into Natasha’s backstory while also being an exciting new adventure with Black Widow.

The only bad news is we’ve got a bit of a wait ahead of us. Black Widow opens in movie theaters everywhere on May 1, 2020.
